The Scotland international ended his 17-match barren run by scoring his 16th goal of the season against his former club Charlton in Saturday's 2-1 win after averaging a goal a game in the first four months of the campaign.

"Everyone knows who Chris Iwelumo is because of that (Scotland) miss!" he said. "I think I've bounced back and scored 10 goals after that miss so I've forgotten about it.

"But I'm always going to be remembered for it."

Iwelumo revealed he was expecting the dip in form he has overcome after such a sizzling start to the season.

"With the form I was in before Christmas, a dip was always going to come," said Iwelumo, whose goal was the 99th of his career.

"I wouldn't say I was punching above my weight, but things were going for me earlier this season and I was on fire.

"When it came, (Sam) Vokes and (Andy) Keogh started scoring. That's what a squad game is all about – no one player can play every single game.

"Things were going against me and I was unlucky in front of goal.

"I haven't really thought about it being the worst spell of my career – I don't think it has been.

"I spent some time on the bench and it was good to take a back seat and let the other lads do it.

"But it's all in the past, we have seven games to go.

"Now there are seven games to go, I've come back and been playing well.

"If I score, great, but if we win and I don't, I'm just as delighted. We just have to get as many points as possible and it's in our own hands."

Iwelumo wants to claim Wolves' second goal after he flicked the ball goalwards and it went in off Matt Holland and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
