Elated team captain Mabel Finnigan said today: "It was absolutely fantastic - I've never known such a day in all my life. We are absolutely over the moon."

Shropshire were never behind in yesterday's final, but it did get a bit tense towards the end before Sonya Lucas of St Georges scored the point that ensured they could not lose.

"Half way through we were 35 up, but then they came back a bit. But the girls at the back did the job - they were awesome.

Two 21-8 wins - by Helen Clee (Wrockwardine Wood) and Doris Nuttall (St Georges) - were vital as the rivals shared the 24 games.

"The atmosphere was unbelievable. There were hundreds there and maybe getting on towards 200 from Shropshire - and it helped make the difference."
