Wolves aces 'will stay at Molineux'

Mick McCarthy insists his young stars see Wolves as a long term bet for the Premier League - not a "stepping stone" to the top flight.

Newcastle's executive director Dennis Wise watched Wolves' 3-1 win at Charlton on Saturday when several of McCarthy's charges caught the eye.

Under-fire Wise is looking for right-wing cover after losing James Milner to Villa and Michael Kightly is bound to have come under his gaze.

Molineux boss McCarthy is adamant no one will be leaving this season and says the club's best players are happy to fulfil their Premier League ambitions with Wolves.

"Players have come to Wolves to get to the Premier League - not as a stepping stone because the club is geared up for it in terms of training ground, stadium and fans, so we need to get there," said McCarthy.

"If we don't there will be a lot of unhappy people. The transfer window could be open all year because they (my best players) aren't going anywhere.

"If you spoke to Steve (Morgan) or Jez (Moxey), they would tell you exactly the same. Why would we want to sell them? We know how it works: you find out someone is in for them and it upsets the applecart."
