But his success in reaching the last 32 was followed by an ominous warning from organiser Barry Jennings, the county president elect. Entry costs £5 and the remaining qualifying sessions are on Sundays, November 12, 19 and 26 (11am and 1.30pm), book with Jennings on 01743-242706.

Edwards was joined by two bowlers from Premier League champions St Georges and four other Shropshire men in getting through the first sessions.

Three Sir John Bayley bowlers lost in the qualifying games and the day's highest break prize was shared by Emlyn Jones and Mal Grady who both had 15s and received a half bottle of whisky each.
