Those who impose hospital parking fees are a disgrace

I write more in hope than expectation that the powers that be in the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospitals will abandon their plans to further tax those having the audacity to visit the above establishments by car when sick, bereaved or concerned about their loved ones.

Having to pay any parking fee is bad enough in itself during stressful times but to further penalise ill people by increasing the parking tax by some 100 per cent is completely unjustified.

These misguided people in charge of of two hospitals are a disgrace. Claiming that the revenue generated pays for 40 nurses following recent statements to the effect that shortage of staff is likely to lead to the closure of some services is either utterly wrong or blatant lies.

Further, Graham Shepherd of the Shropshire Patients Group states he is astonished and annoyed at Julia Clarkes, the director of corporate governance’s statement announcing the proposed increase. Merely “astonished and annoyed” Mr Shepherd? You should be incandescent with fury and rage!!

Make no mistake, these increases are purely and simply a cash cow revenue stream imposed on those most vulnerable members of our society in times of most need.

But as I said in my opening comments I cannot imagine those in the ivory towers of SaTH, the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, will pay any heed whatsoever to any complaint. So what if our local charges are among the lowest in the country, is there a point here?

The point I and countless others are making is very, very simple. For the avoidance of confusion I will spell it out for you in very simple language:-

There shouldn’t be any charges for hospital parking anywhere in the country.

Is that too difficult for you unelected and unaccountable mandarins at SaTH to understand?
