The lights were put up at the junction of Salop Road and Black Gate Street in Oswestry on Thursday while Severn Trent worked to fix a water issue.

Traffic was backed up in all directions, and at one point a blue light ambulance had to weave its way through the packed street.

A spokesman for Severn Trent said they aimed to complete the roadworks overnight.

He said: “Our teams are currently working on Black Gate Street in Oswestry fixing a leak, and to keep our team and other road users safe, we’ll be using three-way traffic lights as we work.

“Repairs began today and we will be aiming to have everything completed overnight.

“We’re really sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but it will be our priority to fix the pipe and get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
