Telford bus station redevelopment: Six stands to close for works
Six stands at a bus station will close today as part of ongoing redevelopment works.
Stands A to F at Telford bus station will be closed as part of the ongoing improvements.
Services will depart at from stands G to R, with a new stand, S, created at the taxi drop off point.
The out-of-date bus station at Telford Shopping Centre will be replaced with a bright new hub that will transform the appearance of Northfield Street.
Telford & Wrekin Council gave the green light for the plans for the bus station redevelopment last year.
Work will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to bus services during the build and keep the pedestrian access into Telford Shopping Centre open.
It is expected to be completed by the autumn of next year.
Initially the contractors Interserve will remodel the entrances and footpaths into the station, with demolition of the existing bus stands and construction of the new stands starting in the new year.
The new station will include a canopy to protect travellers from the elements, automatic glass doors to allow access to the buses when they arrive on the stands and seating for customers.
Last week, Northfield street northbound was closed, though the southbound side has remained open.
