Residents of a Shropshire village are set for two weeks of disruption with resurfacing work taking place for the fourth time in two years.

The work, which is being carried out on the B4386 through Marton village also includes drainage improvements just outside the village to the east.

It comes after a number of previous efforts to resurface the road in the village failed. Councillor, Heather Kidd, said that the residents are hoping the problems will finally be resolved.

She said: "The parish council has been beside itself.

"Residents have been frustrated and I think this is the opportunity to get it done properly so we are really pleased that it is being done."

However, Councillor Kidd said the parish council remains concerned about the impact of the work on the local post office and pub, The Sun Inn.

She said: "We are worried about the access to the post office and also the pub.

"They have said they will try to open it up as soon as possible from the Chirbury side."

Shropshire Council says the road will be closed between 9am and 3pm from Monday to Friday from October 31, although the authority says that there may be the need for traffic lights to be in place outside of the scheduled hours.

A signed diversion route will be in place while the road is closed and access to properties will be maintained throughout the works. Schools have also been notified of the work.
