The uniforms of all 32 teams in the NFL are to be made available as skins to players in Fortnite’s battle royale mode.

The National Football League said that from Friday players would be able to access the new outfits from the in-game store, which can then be customised with a number of the player’s choice.

Alongside the team kits, there will be football-themed emotes, harvesting tools, gliders and even a referee’s outfit.

The NFL’s chief media and business officer Brian Rolapp said the game’s popularity among professional NFL players made it hard to ignore.

“We see the popularity of Fortnite every day at the NFL as many of our players are passionate about this game,” he said.

“This partnership represents a great opportunity for millions of NFL fans who are Fortnite players to express their fandom inside the game, while at the same time exposing our brand to countless others.”

NFL, among many other sports, has seen the Fortnite phenomenon creep into player celebrations over the last year.

Footballers at the World Cup, as well as in the Premier League, Spain’s La Liga and Germany’s Bundesliga have also provided notable examples of emotes working their way into goal celebrations.

The NFL confirmed the new content would be available from this Friday night in the US; the early hours of Saturday morning in the UK.
