Developer Shropshire Homes is bidding to build 42 homes east of Woodcote Way, in Underdale.

Members of Shropshire Council's planning committee are to debate the proposal again on Thursday, having stated they were "minded to refuse" the application at a meeting last month.

The plans include 25 three-bed homes, eight four-bed properties and nine two-bed houses, as well as the formation of estate roads and an access road leading to Woodcote Way.

Concerns were raised about the potential for flooding on the site and the effect on local traffic congestion.

A final decision was deferred until council officers could produce a report explaining in detail the planning policy guidelines in connection with the issues, as well as further information from the Environment Agency.

The EA has now dropped its initial objections to the plans after developers made a series of revisions to the proposals with the intention of reducing the flood risk to the planned properties.

Shropshire Council's own flood and water management team have also indicated they have no objection to the plans.

The report to councillors also stated that highways officials have met with developers to discuss concerns about traffic safety in and around the proposed development.

Concerns have previously been raised about the proposals by more than a dozen residents and Shrewsbury Town Council, which raised fears that traffic dangers close to Severndale School and The Wilfred Owen School could be increased.

The new report stated a speed hump will be put in place adjacent to a planned play area, and cycle lane markings and symbols.

"The highway officer considers that these amendments will maximise the safety of children and minimise the potential for collisions between cyclists using Woodcote Way and vehicles emerging from the proposed junction." the report said.

The application is to be discussed in a meeting of the central planning committee and will take place in Shirehall. The meeting will start at 2pm.
