Go-ahead for Telford homes plan despite protests
Controversial plans for more than 300 homes on an industrial site in Telford have been given the go-ahead amid protests from furious residents.
Councillor John Minor, chairman of Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee, had to repeatedly remind members of the public at last night's meeting that councillors were only allowed to determine applications according to planning law.
He threatened to take the meeting behind closed doors as protesters continued to interrupt the debate over an outline planning application for 460 homes on the former Doseley Works site off St Luke's Road in Doseley.
The meeting was told that only 75 per cent – more than 300 homes – would be allowed until or if permission was gained for a second road off Wellington Road.
The residents' main objection was that St Luke's Road, which is a narrow rural lane, would not be able to cope with the extra traffic.
