Shropshire links ‘vital to Mid Wales prosperity’
The future prosperity of Mid Wales could centre on better links, through Shropshire, with the West Midlands.
Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, is calling on all parties to commit to a commitment to strengthen support for the Mid Wales economy in General Election manifestos rather than concentrate on the north and the south of the principality.
He said: "I have sought to make sure that the Conservative manifesto makes a commitment to developing the economy of Mid Wales. While being enthusiastic about the Cardiff City Deal, the Swansea City Deal and the North Wales Growth Deal, I fervently believe Mid Wales must not be left out. This is why I've used my influence to ensure Mid Wales will feature in the Conservative manifesto.
"The main economic artery into Mid Wales is the Severn Valley, connecting our beautiful rural landscapes with the economic powerhouse that is the West Midlands. If I am re-elected on June 8, I hope to put a Mid Wales growth strategy at the heart of my ambition for my constituency of Montgomeryshire.
“While many aspects of development in Wales falls within the remit of the Welsh Assembly, it will be a crucial role for Montgomeryshire’s Member of Parliament to continue developing a constructive cross border relationship, where the potential of Wales is properly recognised in the West Midlands, and to ensure that transport links are strengthened.
“I very much want to continue being involved in creating business opportunity in Mid Wales."
