Plans for estate in Shrewsbury village

Plans to build nearly 30 homes in a popular village on the outskirts of Shrewsbury have been submitted to Shropshire Council.

Shingler Homes was granted full planning permission for the three, four and five bedroom houses in Hanwood back in 2015.

But work on the 29 homes has not started and now the building firm has refined the plan and improved the layout, design and density.

The company is hoping to build the homes on land west of the Telephone Exchange in the village and has applied to Shropshire Council under reserved matters for the scheme to be given the green light.

In a design and access statement prepared by Base Architecture of Shrewsbury, the company said: " The site layout has been arranged to fit within the context of Hanwood with a similar density. The size of the plots are consistent with those across Hanwood and provide external amenity space for each dwelling and sufficient parking including garages for the majority of the four and five bed units.

"The reserved matters application proposes three, four and five bed dwellings in a variety of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties that reflect the housing offer in Hanwood as a whole. The mixture of house types and sizes encourages a mixed, sustainable community.

"The layouts of the proposed dwellings are orientated around spacious family living spaces that meet modern standards. The lounge and dining areas utilise large openings that will encourage residents to use the garden spaces, as well as maximising natural light into the dwellings. The architectural styling of the dwellings draws from the character of Hanwood."

The application was lodged with Shropshire Council earlier this week and will be decided upon by members of the council's planning committee at a date to be fixed.
