Firefighters scrambled to M54 car fire - but it was false alarm

Firefighters were scrambled to a car fire on the M54 which proved to be a false alarm.

The incident happened on the M54 eastbound on Friday afternoon between Junction 3 for the Tong interchange and Junction 2 for Coven Heath.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "At 12.26pm on Saturday, November 5, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a car fire in Telford. False alarm caused by mechanical failure. Investigation only

"Three fire appliances were mobilised from Telford Central and Wellington. An operations officer was in attendance."
