Businesses have joined forces with St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council and St Georges Partnership to commemorate the event – despite organisers having to cancel the annual street parade for the second year running due to the pandemic.

The organising team has arranged for 80 metres of bunting to be installed in St Georges by Atcham-based electrical Prysmian, as well as a large banner.

A poster has been designed for young residents to download from Facebook groups serving St Georges and Priorslee areas to colour in and display. The parish council has sponsored the saint’s day initiative at a cost of £390.

St Georges Partnership chairman Councillor Richard Overton said: “I am glad that we are able to celebrate our patron saint’s day in some way and hopefully next year the event can return.

“We have written to shop owners to ask them to decorate their shops if they could just to make St George’s Day a little special even though we can’t celebrate as we would wish.”

The partnership said it was grateful to other businesses including Janine Haircare and ASM Motor Repairs for their help.
