Charlton Bowling Club is hosting an open day this weekend

Charlton Bowling Club is hoping to bowl over newcomers and get some more members signed up to help secure the future of the club.

There will be free coaching and free refreshments at the event, which runs at Hadley Learning Centre from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday.

Annette Lucas, a member of the club who has helped organise the day, said: "It's free for all ages. We are looking for new members. We only have one ladies team at the moment so we could do with more ladies joining.

"It's a really fun sport and a good family club to be part of. People might see it as more of an activity for older people but we have a lot of young members.

"We just want people to come down and give it a try."

The club, which was initially called Wellington Bowling Club, has been running since 1838 and has won several trophies including the 2006 Coronation Cup.
