Severn Hospice wants to expand its site at Apley Castle and has submitted a planning application to Telford & Wrekin Council.

The proposals would see a single storey extension built to create the new facility, as well as offices and a conservatory.

The therapy and gym room would be used for complementary therapy and physiotherapy to offer a range of supportive therapies alongside medical treatments to help alleviate patients’ symptoms and aid their relaxation.

A report, submitted with the plans, states: “Complementary therapies play an important role in supporting patients at the hospice, aiding relaxation and giving a sense of comfort and pleasure.

“Therapies can provide emotional support which helps to improve quality of life and gives a sense of wellbeing, comfort and security.

“The therapy and gym room will be a much-needed facility which will have great benefit to the hospice and its patients.”

Donations

Severn Hospice gives specialist care and support free of charge to families across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who are living with an incurable illness.

Since 1989, the charity has given free care and support to more than 34,000 people and their loved ones during their time of greatest need.

It is a completely independent charity, having to raise around two-thirds of its running costs.

Its services are funded through a combination of donations, fundraising activities, lottery and retail departments, gifts in people’s wills and grants from the NHS.

It has care centres in Telford, Shrewsbury and Newtown.

Telford & Wrekin Council planners will make a decision on the proposals in the upcoming months.

Recent donations have included a £21,000 donation from the Telford Tree of Light which is organised by the Telford and District Rotary Clubs.
