Super slimmer aiming for London marathon
A super slimmer got motivated to shed two stone after her husband sustained life-changing injuries in a motorbike crash.
And now Nic Smith, from Dawley, is going to be running London Marathon to raise cash for children who need mobility equipment after her spouse became wheelchair-bound.
The 36-year-old mother-of-five had rejoined WW, formerly known as Weight Watchers, at the beginning of 2017 to lose baby weight she'd gained while pregnant with her youngest son Axl, 2.
But in April that year, her husband Add was involved in a crash that resulted in several broken bones and injuries to his spinal cord which left him unable to walk.
Nic, a teaching assistant at Southall School in Dawley, said: "That was the moment our lives changed. He spent seven months in the hospital and I was doing my best to manage with the children and going to see my husband in Stoke every day."
The couple also have Chelsie, 18, Tyler, 17, Katelyn, 16, and 14-year-old Robson. Nic added: "Robson and Katelyn took it quite badly, but they've all been brilliant."
After a traumatic few months Nic, with the support of her husband, was able to get back to keeping fit, joining Lawley Running Club and sticking with her WW plan.
She said: "I run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The group help me a lot and I've made some brilliant friends. Add has been really supportive. His aim is to walk again, even if it takes him five years. His joke is that he's going to beat me eventually."
Nic is well into her training for the marathon, which takes place on Sunday, April 28. She is raising cash for Whizz Kids, which supports children with mobility issues.
She said: "With everything that's happened with Add it's a cause that's close to us. Whizz Kids have provided a couple of wheelchairs to kids at the school I work at and they're fantastic.
