Tibberton CE Primary School is holding its Curious about Careers event to coincide with National Careers Week.

The aim of the programme is to raise aspirations among young children by giving them a broader understanding of the types of careers available.

Children will hear from a number of guest speakers about a wide variety of professions including those working in nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy and other public health roles.

They will also hear from a police officer, barrister and solicitor and will learn about jobs in microbiology, the veterinary profession, freight forwarding and catering.

Emma Lovatt, parent-lead for the event, said: “With the spotlight shining on careers nationally this week we thought it would be great fun to get the children thinking about what they might like to do when they grow up.

“We wanted to give them an insight into a broad range of exciting professions and with help from parents at the school and local businesses we have been able to put together a varied programme of talks and activities.

“We’re positive the children will feel inspired after hearing people’s different career stories and they are sure to come away with a much better understanding about the world of work.”

The careers talks are taking place over three different sessions and follow-up activities will provide children with the opportunity to come to school dressed up in an outfit to demonstrate the jobs they envisage doing when they are older.

Helen Osterfield, the school''s headteacher, said: “It should be a wonderful week of learning for all of us providing both pupils and teachers with a better insight into a range of exciting professions.

“We are very grateful to all the parents and local businesses who will be giving up their time to come and speak to the children. We hope they will find it an enjoyable and rewarding experience."
