Telford Town Park's iconic web climbing frame to get refurb
An iconic piece of play equipment in Telford will be refurbished using money from a fund which has been set up to celebrate the town’s 50th anniversary.
Thousands of children each year play on the so-called spider’s web climbing frame at Telford Town Park.
It was installed nearly 20 years ago, however the play equipment will soon come to the end of its useful life.
Now thanks to the council’s Telford 50 Legacy Fund, a new spider’s web is to be installed next month to keep it in the town park for years to come.
The new web will also include some new swing seats as part of the frame.
The new frame is due to be installed in time for the school summer holidays.
The £60,000 investment will provide Telford and the Town Park with a lasting legacy for generations.
The Town Park attracts more than 700,000 visitors each year and the new spiders web will also provide children with years of fun long after the Telford 50 celebrations end.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council’s deputy leader, said: “The spider’s web is hugely popular with families in the Town Park, and children of all ages love using it.
“Thanks to the Telford 50 legacy fund many families and children will continue to enjoy this special feature in the town park for years to come and it can continue to be part of the draw of Telford Town Park which attracts so many people to the borough.”
The £2 million Telford 50 Legacy Fund supports a mix of physical schemes as well as other projects that help tackle key social issues in the borough and reduce demand on council services.
It has already announced it is funding almost £1m to help refurbish or purchase a range buildings for community use across the borough, a £45,000 scheme to provide permanent lighting for the Iron Bridge and a scheme to spruce up 50 green open spaces in the borough chosen by the public through the biggreenvote.telford.gov.uk
