Motorcycle rally cancelled
An annual motorcycle club rally normally attended by hundreds of people has been cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances".
The Bugsplatz annual rally was due to take place over the weekend of May 11 to 13, but will no longer go ahead.
Sarah Harrison, club secretary of the Bugsplatz, said that the event would not be able to be rescheduled for this year due to a lack of space in the calendar.
The annual rally was to take place at the Haberdashers Arms in Knighton, Staffordshire, with camping and marquees to host a number of bands over the weekend.
Anywhere between 200 and 400 people had been expected to attend the rally.
The group organises a number of other events throughout the year, including an annual Christmas ride out and a bike show at the Travellers Joy Inn at Horsehay, Telford.
Ms Harrison said refunds had been offered to those who had already bought tickets for the event.
She said: "Normally we have anything between 200 and 400 people. The numbers purely depend on the weather.
"All the tickets bought in advance have been refunded."
Ms Harrison said that those attending had expressed their disappointment at the event's cancellation – a sentiment that she said the organisers shared.
She said: "We have had quite a few people who said they are completely gutted – so are we – but unfortunately sometimes things do not go to plan.
"Due to the timetable we have, because there are so many other rallies, it will not be possible to rearrange for this year."
The group's events raise money for two different charities a year, with the most recent recipients being Shelter and victims of domestic violence in Telford.
Ms Harrison said that above all they want to get the message out that the event will not be taking place, with some people still trying to book tickets or spaces for stalls.
She said: "We want to get the message out there because we are still getting phone calls from people asking for tickets and trade stands and although we would love to be able to say "yes" – it is with great regret that we have had to do this because we were looking forward to it ourselves, but sometimes things just happen."
Busplatz is a Telford based motorcycle club which goes on runs, track days, rallies and parties as well as organizing events for charity such as the Telford Christmas Run.
Members include both men and women, who ride a range of bikes from 50cc to high powered sports bikes, sports tourers , big ‘trailies’, ‘street fighters’ and cruisers.
