Community groups and churchgoers have been busy knitting more than 400 angels over the past year.

They are to be left on walls, fences and street signs across Lawley and anyone who finds one can bring it home to put on their Christmas tree.

Deacon Julie Morton and The Rev Lee Plummer will be among those placing the angels around the village.

Deacon Morton, from the Telford Methodist Circuit, said: "We started doing it last year. "We dropped off 200 angels last year and this year it's going to be 400 plus angels. "We wanted to find a way of blessing the community.

"Groups from the community and local churches have been knitting the angels. One lady knitted over 100 of them.

"People have followed the same basic pattern but have put their own personal imprint on them.

"They are in different colours with different types of wings.

"Our plan is to take them out on Monday so people in Lawley need to watch out for them."

She said they would be placed all around the community, including on walls, fences, street signs and hidden in trees.

Deacon Morton said: "Some of them might be hidden so people will have to hunt them out.

"When people find them they can post pictures of them on the Lawley Village Facebook group. They can also take them home and put them on their trees.

"We had a good response to it last year.

"Christmas is not always an easy time for some people so we see the angels as a way of blessing people and reminding them that the churches care for them."
