Councillor Julian Dean, who represents Porthill, is expected to inherit the red robe and gold chains from outgoing Conservative mayor Gwen Burgess, who lost her Meole seat to Lib Dem Bernie Bentick.

Mr Dean will be made mayor at a Full Council meeting at Theatre Severn on Monday at 6pm. Numbers are limited for members of the public due to Covid-19 restriction, so anyone who would like to attend must book online at eventbrite.co.uk/e/annual-meeting-mayor-making-of-shrewsbury-town-council-tickets-154441664175

Other business at the meeting will include a number of committee appointments as well as a message of thanks to outgoing councillors, including Ms Burgess, former Shropshire Council leader Peter Nutting, Peter Adams, Hannah Fraser, Ioan Jones, Jane Mackenzie and Keith Roberts.
