An APC Overnight delivery van rolled backwards down the Shrewsbury shopping street on Monday morning, mounting the kerb and swerving backwards into an empty shop front.

A passing woman had to jump to safety and the road was closed for about two hours as structural engineers made sure the building was safe.

Meanwhile, a different van owned by the same company was involved with a crash involving a number of other vehicles at about 5.30pm on the same day on the A49.

Eleanor Harris, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police were called at 10am on Monday after a car rolled into a shop front in Wyle Cop in Shrewsbury.

"The road was closed for a short time to allow a structural engineer to ensure the building was safe. No-one was injured during the incident.

"Police were called at 5.30pm on Monday to a report of a collision involving five vehicles on the A49 near Preston Island from Sundorne. Those involved suffered minor injuries only."
