The long-running fundraising church event remembering lost loved ones is returning for another year

For two decades Severn Hospice’s Lights of Love service has provided comfort to those who have lost someone close to them, while raising vital funds to support families facing difficult times this Christmas.

The charity creates a unique Christmas tree of memories, adorned with lights and dedications to loved ones, as a centrepiece for the service.

This year’s service is taking place at St Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury on December 2.

Lucy Ruff, fundraising manager at Severn Hospice, said: “From its humble beginnings with less than 100 people standing outside our hospice in Shrewsbury to what it has become today, it’s easy to see why the event holds a special place in the hearts of so many.

“Christmas is a time for family and loved ones but for many it can be a time when we feel the loss of those we hold dear even more.

Reflection

“Each light in our tree shines out not only for their loved ones but also for the families we support today and in the future. Our tree once up will form part of the church’s tree festival and remain a focus for memory and reflection throughout the festive period.

“The money we raise through our Lights of Love appeal will helps us be there for the thousands of families who need our care each year, some of whom will be facing their first Christmas with an empty chair at the dinner table.

“Everyone is welcome to attend the service and dedicate a light on our tree, they don’t need to have experienced our care, we just ask they let us know if they are planning on joining us.

“People can dedicate a light via our website or by completing the form available from our shops and hospices.”

The Lights of Love services will be held at 2pm and 4pm.
