Sewer problems shut Shrewsbury Crown Court as cells flood

Shrewsbury Crown Court was forced to close today due to sewage issues.

Staff at the court said there had been a sewage problem in the cells but the court is expected to be open as usual tomorrow.

Steve Law, Shropshire Council’s strategic asset manager, added: “Shropshire Council had been notified that the court cells had flooded due to backing up from the drains connected to Shirehall.

"We are investigating how this had been caused and what action needs to be taken to avoid it happening in the future.”
