Wildlife cameraman to give talk
A renowned wildlife film maker will be in Shrewsbury to give an inspirational talk on his life and career.
Simon King will be guest of Shropshire Wildlife Trust in Abbey Foregate on July 24 when he will be talking to youngsters aged between 11 and 30.
The talk is has been organised as part of The Growing Confidence Project, a Big Lottery Funded scheme to offer young people the chance to discover more about wildlife, wild places and learn new skills which would help in future careers. The project has already run numerous events on a range of skills from bush craft and green wood working to fencing and hedge laying and species surveying and identification with over 1,000 young people.
The evening talk with launches an exciting program of “Wild about” seminars. Simon is best known for creating, filming, directing and presenting many award winning TV programmes and films, some of the best known being Springwatch, Big Cat Diary, Planet Earth, Blue Planet and the Life series.
His journey into wildlife film making began during childhood. He began his career as a child actor on television, featuring in The Fox, Secret Place and Man and Boy. He made his first film when he was just 21 years old and has since made over 80 natural history films.
Ruth Hudson, Growing Confidence project officer, said: “Simon King’s programmes have amazed millions of people about the wonders of wildlife and we are thrilled that he will be coming to Shrewsbury to share his experiences as a wildlife filmmaker. Already in the first year of we have helped over 1000 young people through the Growing Confidence Project to think a bit more about their local environment and we would like to encourage more young people to think about how wildlife could fit in to their futures.”
The talk has been funded by Pearce Environment and CJ Wildlife.
Both companies have been supportive of the Growing Confidence project since its inception and have demonstrated a shared aim of inspiring the young generations.
