The Lingen Davies Cancer Fund is working with Adrenaline Sporting Events to put on a ‘Pedal the Borders’ race – a 100km route, beginning and ending in Oswestry, taking in stunning scenery of Shropshire and Mid Wales, including Lake Vyrnwy.

The event will take place on July 25.

As part of the preparations for the race, sponsors Aico, The Business Company, Rix Petroleum, Craven Dunnill, Shropshire Cycle Hub and Brooks Cycles, held a socially distanced catchup to discuss how they will be backing the inaugural event.

Fire alarm manufacturers, Aico, are giving their facility in Oswestry as the start and finish point for the ride, as well as offering financial support as headline sponsor.

Neal Hooper, managing director at the company said they were thrilled to be supporting the charity.

He said: “Lingen Davies Cancer Fund are a very important part of Shropshire and we have been delighted to work alongside the charity for a while now.”

Shropshire Cycle Hub will be providing mechanical support on the day of the event – the cycle hub offer refurbishment of donated bikes, free bikes to NHS staff and are driven by improving access to healthy sustainable transport.

Mark Harris, managing director of The Business Company added: “We are delighted to be part of this fundraising event in aid of Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.”

People are being invited to join the event – and commit to raising £1 per kilometre.

The fundraising will help Lingen Davies to fund a new CT scanner and the build three new clinic rooms – both projects will improve the quality of care that cancer patients in the region will receive.
