OsNosh and Shrewsbury Food Hub linked up at the United Reformed Church to prepare a two-course pay-as-you-feel meal.

The idea was to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for those who were hungry, struggling, or just in need of some company, and to make use of Christmas waste food from supermarkets.

The church opened from 12pm with coffee, pastries and other extra Christmas treats, before the sit down meal commenced.

OsNosh is an Oswestry-based community kitchen, making free meals for people struggling by using waste food, and Shrewsbury Food Hub is a charity that collects waste food from supermarkets and distributes it to people in need.

Ben Wilson, co-founder of OsNosh, said: "It was a collaboration between us both - the Food Hub provided the volunteers and the surplus food and we cooked it. I managed the kitchen.

"It was good. People seemed to be enjoying it.

"There was a truly disgusting amount of surplus food. we didn't even make a dent in it. We cooked for more than 50 people with our volunteers.

"It was pay-as-you-feel, but we found a lot of people wanted to pay because they were getting a proper two-course meal, a rich meal.

"The feedback every time we do it is really good. We are looking to spread out and do more venues around Shrewsbury so we can reach more people that need it."
