An Oswestry councillor has called on owners of town centre buildings to ensure they keep the properties in good repair, after a guttering came down onto a street.

Councillor Paul Milner said the piece of guttering falling to the pavement was just the latest of concerning problems with buildings.

A part of Bailey Street was corndoned off on a Wednesday afternoon last month when the section of cast iron dropped from a building.

Councillor Milner said: "Shropshire Council was quickly on the scene, made it safe and ordered a survey of the property. Thankfully it happened late in the afternoon when the market stalls had packed up for the day."

He is calling on businesses to check their properties.

"Owners of buildings must take into consideration the state of their buildings and monitor them regularly," he said.

"The town centre can get incredibly busy, for instance we had the Food Festival recently when we had thousands of people on the streets of the town enjoying the two-day event."
