Inquest opens into driver killed in Oswestry A5 collision

An inquest has opened into the death of a man involved in a crash with a stationary lorry in a layby on the A5 near Oswestry.

Garat Anthony Hannan died following the collision on March 20, the Coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Mr John Ellery, heard today.

At the opening of the inquest at Shirehall, Mr Ellery heard evidence that Mr Hannan, of no fixed address, had been driving a Vauxhall Mokka when it went into a layby on the A5 by the Bridleway Caravan Park, Gobowen, and was involved in a collision with a stationary heavy goods vehicle.

The collision happened at about 12.30am on March 20.

Mr Ellery adjourned the inquest until July 17.

Mr Hannan's family has issued a statement through the police, paying tribute to him.
