Emma Pollard from Edgerley, between Oswestry and Shrewsbury, is the current Miss Shropshire and is just one of 50 women to have reached the Miss England final out of thousands who applied.

The 19-year-old will compete for the crown at competitions held at Birmingham Resort World on July 26 and 27 and Kelham Hall, near Newark, on September 3 and 4.

Emma studied A Level business, media and photography at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and reached the top 20 of Miss England last year.

She said: “I am delighted to have reached the final again and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience at the final last year.

“I have met so many amazing girls and am proud to again be representing Shropshire in such a prestigious national final.

“I am really keen to be a good ambassador for my local area and to continue to raise money for such a worthy cause, Beauty With a Purpose."

Away from the catwalk, Emma has played for a number of netball teams in leagues around Shropshire and has won many county titles and local tournaments with her college team.

She has represented her county, region and trialled for the National Colleges squad.

Emma was awarded Netball Player of the Year and Sportswomen of the Year at her old school, Shrewsbury Girls High School.

Beauty with a Purpose was created by Julia Morley in 1972. It is at the heart of Miss World.

Hundreds of millions of pounds have been raised and donated to local and international organisations in aid of disadvantaged children the world over. Variety, The Children’s Charity, has been closely associated with Beauty with a Purpose for many years.

Other causes to have benefitted from Beauty with a Purpose include the funding for Cleft Palate Teams in South America, Sri Lanka and Russia, three fundraising tours to support abandoned and neglected children in Vietnam, long term support for both Operation Hunger and the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Africa, and teaming up with Jackie Chan and the Chinese Red Cross in bringing financial aid to those most seriously affected by the Asian tsunami.
