Jake Hughes, 16, had problems with his immune system and under went a bone marrow operation, spending at Manchester Children's Hospital.

He suffered from multi organ failure passed away on August 1, 2015.

But, two years, on a total of £26,000 has been raised in the Glyn Ceiriog teenager's memory.

The money will be going to the hospital, and will be handed over next week at a tea and cake event.

Jake's auntie, Lynne Morris said: "It is something he had suffered with all his life.

"He had the transplant and was in hospital from January to August when he sadly died."

Jake was a farmer but had ambitions of being a butcher, and worked for Steve McArdle butchers in Chirk.

While in hospital, his family said Jake felt that more should be done to brighten it up.

So he decided to start raising some money for the work, first £1,000 and then he set a target of £2,000.

He had organised for an auction to take place in September 2015, but died before the event took place.

His parents Julie and Jim and brother Michael still wanted the auction to go ahead, and thanks to support from family, friends and local businesses £16,000 was raised.

But the fundraising did not stop there.

Lynne said: "That idea from Jake set the ball rolling for a load of events.

"We had a Halloween events, whist drives, and the young farmers have recently done a beard shaving competition and raised £2,500.

"We have raised the £26,000 which is brilliant. Donations have stopped now so any other money will be divided between the radiology, theatre and physiotherapy departments at the hospital.

"Jake just wanted to do something to benefit other children and this money will do."

The tea and cake event will be held on Friday September 8 from 4pm to 6pm in the Canolfan Ceiriog Centre in Glyn Ceiriog.

The ward in Manchester has now closed for refurbishment works and a fundraising manager will be attending the event to give an update on the work.

A presentation of the money to the children's hospital will then take place.
