The driver of the HGV was trying to get along the Upper Dolfor Road, south of Newtown, yesterday morning but found that his vehicle was too wide for the narrow channel cut out by snow ploughs.

Traffic behind the lorry, near to the Kerry end of the road, and that driving towards it was also trapped for a short time.

Dyfed Powys Police said that the lorry was freed just after 8.15am and was able to continue on its way.

Delays

Adrian Osborne, from Powys Teaching Health Board, took the photo when he came upon the vehicle on his commute.

Roads are still covered in many parts of Mid Wales despite the thaw which has set in since Sunday afternoon.

Trains have been delayed or cancelled between Powys and South and West Wales.

A search-and-rescue team struggled through snowdrifts after a woman fell ill in countryside cut off by bad weather.

Meanwhile, about 1,500 homes in Wales are still without water following Storm Emma and the Beast from the East, including some homes in south Powys.

Many of those affected have complained about delays in receiving bottled water. Welsh Water has apologised.

The firm said it was prioritising vulnerable people who were without water and had opened bottled water stations to help those who were cut off.
