The annual Bridgnorth Beer Festival is organised the market town's branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), takes takes place over three days from September 7 to September 9.

Organisers say they are expecting more than a 1,000 beer lovers to come to the event at the Severn Valley Railway, where there will be a wide selection of beers from around Shropshire and the wider area.

Shropshire food and drink expert, Laura Hadland, who has documented the group's history in her book 50 Years of CAMRA, has said she is looking forward to Bridgnorth festival.

“For a relatively small festival, the team of volunteers who have organised the event have done an incredible job,” she said. They’ve put together a phenomenal list of cask ales, keg beers, real ciders and perries that really punches above its weight,” she said.

Laura has put together her 'Best of the Fest' - a selection of some of the highlights that newcomers to the beer world might like to try in Bridgnorth this week:

Sarah Hughes - Ruby Mild (6%, cask)

This is a beer that has attained almost legendary status amongst cask drinkers. Whenever I see it, I just can’t resist ordering a pint. This rich, dark beer has a velvety mouthfeel, resplendent with caramel and fruit tones. It slips down easily, but that high ABV needs to be respected, maybe stick to thirds!
