Bridgnorth Town Council starts search for new clerk
Bridgnorth Town Council has confirmed it has started its search for a new town clerk after the former clerk stepped down.
Anne Wilson, who is understood to have been suspended in September, has now left the council after eight years in the role.
The council says it is now in the process of actively recruiting for the position of town clerk.
In the interim period, Barry Ince will be acting town clerk and Roslyn Williams will be acting responsible finance officer.
Bridgnorth's Mayor Councillor Ron Whittle said: "We will be advertising very shortly for a new town clerk.
"That might take a little while. We have to get the right person. We want to move fairly quickly but we have to go through the correct process."
A statement from Ms Wilson said: “Following some personal reflection I have made a decision to leave Bridgnorth Town Council in order to be able to spend more time caring for my family.”
She added: “I would like to take this opportunity to say that I have enjoyed representing Bridgnorth as a town clerk and the work, projects and events that I have undertaken at the town council, working alongside councillors, community organisations and the residents of Bridgnorth and I wish all the best for the future of the town and the new town clerk.
“I would also like to clarify that contrary to postings in the local press and on social media, to the best of my knowledge all employment policies and procedures have been correctly followed during the course of my employment with Bridgnorth Town Council.”
Stephen Robbins, chairman of Bridgnorth Chamber of Commerce, said he was pleased to hear that all employment procedures were correctly followed and he looked forward to working with the town council moving forward.
A memo leaked to the Shropshire Star last year, purporting to be from Councillor Whittle, stated councillors had been ‘advised of the suspension’.
