Bronya gets the chop for charity
A schoolgirl from Bridgnorth has had her cherished long locks chopped off to help children receiving treatment for cancer and other illnesses.
Eleven-year-old Bronya O’Neill had 12 inches cut off her prized long dark hair to help the Little Princess Trust.
The charity will use Bronya's foot-long plait to make special wigs for children undergoing treatment that causes them to lose their hair.
She also raised more than £155 so far in sponsorship for the charity.
Bronya, who is a pupil at St Dominic's School in Brewood, said: “I had a lot of hair and wanted to help children who had lost theirs,”
“Now my hair also feels lighter and better for summer.”
Bronya had her hair cut at the Cute hair salon in Tettenhall Wood, Wolverhampton.
Her mother, Vanessa O’Neill, who is head of biology at St Dominic’s, said: “I am so proud of her. It was a massive step for her to chop off her long hair, which she has always cherished.
“But she likes her new bob, which reaches just above her shoulder. It will take about five years to grow back to full length and she says she will then have it cut again for the charity.”
Bronya had heard about the work of Little Princess Trust online and her aunt, Siobhan O’Neill, aged 27, of Perton, also had her hair cut for the charity recently.
Samantha Kirwan, head of preparatory and English coordinator at St Dominic’s said: “A lot of Bronya’s schoolfriends have sponsored her hair cut and we are all very proud that she has done so much for a very worthwhile cause.”
