500th Covid death at Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals confirmed

The deaths of three more coronavirus patients have been confirmed in Shropshire today.

The announcement of two more deaths at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS trust means that 500 people have now died with Covid-19 at Shropshire's two main hospitals.

Meanwhile the seventh Covid death was confirmed at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen, near Oswestry.

It means 539 coronavirus patients have died in hospitals in Shropshire since the pandemic began, with the other 32 deaths at the Shropshire Community Health Trust.

Over in Powys, 217 people are thought to have died after contracting the disease, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The UK-wide death toll, which includes deaths within 28 days of a positive test, increased by 215 to 120,580 on Sunday.

So far 17,582,121 people have had their first vaccination in the UK, according to the latest data, and 615,148 people have had a second jab.
