Shropshire's Covid-19 vaccination service 'overwhelmed' by support and donations
Thanks have been offered for all the support and donations given to the county's Covid-19 vaccination service.
Those who have helped include Shropshire Electrical Supplies and The Bell, in Shifnal, which for several weeks has provided 'Free Lunch Fridays' for staff and volunteers working at the hospital hub at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford International Centre.
Others include Foodshare UK, Green Fields Farm Shop, Little Vegan Bakehouse, Wheatlands Care Home, Dolly’s Diner, Kebab King Madeley and Slim Choice.
Volunteers have also been thanked for coming forward to help get the vaccination programme up and running.
Angie Wallace, Covid-19 vaccination programme director for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “Thank you for all the support we have received, we’ve been comforted, encouraged, and humbled by the outpouring of generosity and support from our community.
"The Covid-19 vaccination team in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin has done an incredible job to deliver what is the largest vaccination programme in our history and your gestures of support make a real difference, so thank you.”
Karla Jennings-Preece, operational manager for the vaccination service, said the teams have been overwhelmed by the amount of support given, which have included donations of food deliveries.
Council leaders have also offered their thanks to those supporting the service.
Councillor Steve Charmley, deputy leader of Shropshire Council and portfolio holder for economic growth, assets and regeneration, said: "I would like to add my thanks to the ever-growing list of businesses across Shropshire who have helped support the incredible efforts on the ground in getting these centres set up.
“The way the business community has pulled together has been really humbling to see and I would like to remind those businesses that we are also here to support them through our range of business grants and support programmes.”
Telford & Wrekin Council’s leader Shaun Davies added: “On behalf of our council, I would like to say a huge thank you to the amazing staff and volunteers supporting the local vaccination roll-out and to local companies and individuals for their kind donations in assisting local vaccination centres.
"Their contribution makes such a difference as many more of our residents receive this life-saving vaccine.”
