Meyrick Watkins was admitted to hospital with pneumonia last year, and died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

In total £800 was raised from collections at his funeral, and his family recently visited the hospital to thank them for the care they provided and to hand a check over.

His wife Judy was joined by sons Edward 14, Harry 17 and Thomas, 18.

She praised the care she and Meyrick received in the relatives' room, "an absolutely brilliant facility to have so close to the ward".

Judy continued: "They also looked after the boys, explaining everything to them about what was going to happen to their dad.

"So the first thing we said after my Meyrick passed away was to decide the funeral donations were going to go to ITU to help save someone going through what we have to go through."
