The new service, which will be run by Addaction, has been commissioned by Shropshire Council and will form part of the Shropshire Recovery Partnership (SRP). It will begin on April 1.

Addaction has been working in Shropshire for the past three years and will expand its service to support both adults and young people, offering specific support for families and carers throughout the county. They say treatment options will be flexible, bespoke to the individual and easy to access. There will also be a greater focus on reducing harm to families and the community.

Addaction is one of the UK's leading mental health, drug and alcohol charities, helping around 140,000 people around the UK each year affected by their own or someone else's alcohol, drug or mental health problem.

Claire Morris, contract manager, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for new partnerships and community activities to help make recovery visible in the community."

Councillor Lee Chapman, cabinet member for health, said: “We know that substance misuse not only affects the individual concerned but can also have a detrimental impact on their loved ones. It’s vital that individuals, their families and friends know how to get the advice and support they need.

“I am therefore really pleased that we have commissioned Addaction to help us ensure that adults and young people get the support they need to enable them to move on with their lives.”
