Telford care home bosses turn around poor rating
A Telford care home that was placed in special measures after being rated ‘inadequate’ in a Government inspection has made improvements and is now rated as 'good'.
The Care Quality Commission placed St Georges Park in special measures following an inspection in October 2016.
Care home bosses were warned it could face closure if it did not get back up to scratch.
It was reinspected in May last year when the health watchdog announced it required improvement.
But last month another inspection was carried out and a newly-published report shows its rating has improved to 'good'.
It said: "At this inspection we found the service had made the required improvements and was good."
Inspectors said people were "protected from abuse and had their risks assessed, identified and managed appropriately".
The report said people were supported by "sufficient safely recruited staff" and medicines were given as prescribed.
Care plans were in place which staff followed to provide consistent care, according to inspectors.
The report said people had a choice of meals and were supported in an adapted environment.
Staff were described as caring and inspectors said people were treated with dignity and respect.
The report continued: "People received personalised care and support from staff that understood their needs.
"Peoples life history and interests were understood and they had access to activities which were of interest to them.
"Staff felt supported by the management team and there were systems in place to monitor the quality of the service people received."
The home, in School Street, St Georges, is managed by Rotherwood Healthcare.
The inspection took place on April 5 and 6 and was unannounced.
The care home was rated good in all areas inspected.
The inspection team consisted of two inspectors, a specialist nurse advisor and an expert-by-experience.
An expert-by-experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses that type of care service.
