Dorrington Young Farmers in action
Dorrington Young Farmers has started the year with a number of competition successes as well as holding a successful rally.
In April the club undertook a charity project for Dorrington Village Hall committee resurfacing the village play park. Members worked together to remove the existing bark and resurfaced with top soil and grass seeds.
"We managed to receive a £400 grant from National Young Farmers which is part of a nationwide campaign from Government called #iwill," explained club member Jess Davies.
"The campaign is encouraging young people to get involved in helping local communities and fundraising. National YFC receive a pot of money from government to distribute to clubs they feel have used it best. Five clubs all over the UK are selected per quarter and Dorrington were lucky enough to receive it allowing us to provide Dorrington Village Hall with the finances to cover the costs of the grass seeds and the top soil we used, as well as completing the job with our team of volunteers, which the village are extremely happy about."
Earlier in the year Dorrington YFC took part in Shropshire YFC sports competition at Church Stretton School. Teams did extremely well, coming third in Cheerleading, second in Netball, joint first in Junior rounders and first in Football. The club then went on to represent Shropshire YFC at the West Midlands Round, coming first in rounders and second in football.
"The junior team now goes on to represent Shropshire and West Midlands at the National Final in July which is a huge achievement for our young members who are all new members this year," said Jess.
The club rally took place on June 7.
