Working with Moule's team has been great experience
My name is Jamie Jay, I am 19 and currently in my first year at Harper Adams University studying for an RICS accredited BSc(Hons) degree in Rural Property Management.
It’s a four-year sandwich course with a 12 month work placement in the third year, so to help put myself in a stronger position ready for placement applications in 2018, I decided to spend my Easter break undertaking some professional work experience to support my academic studies and to gain some industry-related experience.
I knew of Moule & Co. chartered surveyors through a family contact so gave Hannah Moule a call to see if the firm could fit me in and keep me busy for a little while, which has certainly been the case!
Over the last two weeks I’ve been involved in a variety of jobs both in and out of the office, meeting clients all over Worcestershire, Shropshire and into Gloucestershire.
I hit the office at one of the busiest times of the year and have been helping to check and complete some Basic Payment Scheme applications, in good time for the May 15 deadline.
I’ve also enjoyed getting involved in other rural property-related work including HM Land Registry mapping and carrying out research to support land and farm valuations.
The variety of services which Moule & Co offers has meant I’ve had the opportunity to broaden my personal experience across several areas of the profession. I’ve also enjoyed being welcomed to work as part of the team, an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly bunch - and of course making my fair share of tea and coffee!
The main office is on a farm in Hartlebury near Kidderminster. The rural location has been a great base to work from and observe the day-to-day running of the farm through the office windows, with the cherry blossom out and the asparagus season just started.
The farm guard dog Goose is also a big personality around the place, often visiting everyone in the office and making herself heard around the yard!
What can I take away from my time at Moule & Co? As an aspiring chartered surveyor, any opportunity to learn more about the profession is important and worthwhile pursuing. I’ve improved my skills in areas I had little experience in, such as online mapping software and Rural Payment Agency systems.
I can also say I have worked with a great team who have kept me more than busy since day one.
Jamie Jay
