Storm Babet has brought localised flooding to the county after a month's worth of rain in a single day.

The deluge caused travel disruption on Friday and into the weekend, and also led to the death of a man near Cleobury Mortimer.

The height of the River Severn is now going down, having peaked at Montford and Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night respectively.

The level peaked at Buildwas on Monday afternoon and Bridgnorth on Monday evening.

Despite going down, levels are still officially high, varying from 0.6m to 1.75m above the normal range at various points along the river in the county.

Explaining the situation on X, formerly Twitter, Environment Agency expert Dr Stacy Phillips said: "Things starting to clear up in Shrewsbury, with the Welsh Bridge at 3.35m this morning. The peak is now making its way through Worcestershire. Any further rain should only slow the recession of water (shouldn’t cause levels to rise again dramatically)."
