Driver died after car hit wall near Oswestry, inquest told
A talented horse rider died after his car hit a wall in the early hours, an inquest heard.
Lewis Holyoake, 30, died on September 11 just metres from his home in Melverley, near Oswestry.
The inquest of the groundsman – who won a regional show jumping championship at the age of 12 – was opened and adjourned yesterday.
It was opened by Mr John Ellery, senior coroner for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
The hearing was told that Mr Holyoake was a father of two boys and was expecting another child with his girlfriend.
He had been driving friends to and from a party in Market Drayton in the hours preceding his death.
When he was 150 metres from his home in Melverley, his Vauxhall Corsa hit a stone wall.
A resident of a nearby property heard a noise but it wasn't until the following morning that his body was found by a farmer.
A post mortem was carried out. The cause of death was given as multiple injuries arising from a road traffic collision.
The inquest was adjourned until January 17 at Shirehall, Shrewsbury.
