Road closed as tanker of gas crashes in Mid Wales field
The driver of a gas tanker had a lucky escape when it crashed into a field, causing major hold-ups on a main road in Mid Wales.
A 23-mile stretch of the A470 Newtown to Machynlleth road was closed for more than five hours after the tanker left the road and overturned.
The crash happened between Llanbrynmair and Dolfach, near Machynlleth, at about 1pm yesterday.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the tanker was half full of gas when it crashed.
A spokeswoman said today the driver did not appear to have been injured and the road reopened just after 6.30pm.
She said that crews from Mid and West Wales Fire Service went to the scene to make the vehicle safe.
The A470 was closed between Caersws, near Newtown, and Mallwyd, near Machynlleth, for most of the afternoon.
