Plans will be on display featuring the design and layout of the contemporary new space as prospective pupils and parents take a closer look at the school and all its facilities.

The development comes just after the first anniversary of The Wrekin Business School in Wellington, which was opened by one of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs Nick Wheeler, founder of Charles Tyrwhitt.

Headmaster Tim Firth said today Wrekin College had enjoyed an “excellent year” and was very much looking forward to welcoming visitors on Saturday from 10.30am to 1pm.

He said: “We have grown in size, added key new academic staff in management positions, our pupils achieved the best GCSE results on record as well as Oxbridge offers, we put down a new hockey surface, and will be opening the new library and sixth form social centre this September.

“All of theses achievements are to be celebrated while we also look to the future and how we can further improve not only the school facilities but the educational experience for each and every child.

“We are doing all that we can to make Wrekin the best possible version of itself, which is the mission we have for each and every pupil here.”

The new library has been designed by Yorkshire-based firm Opening the Book which specialises in creating flexible and exciting pupil-centred spaces that really engage youngsters.

The designs are based on extensive research looking at what makes a child want to pick up a book or read a digital message and the space will include technology alongside modular tables and mobile bookcases.

Tours will be led by pupils on Saturday while there will also be activities for children to take part in.

Mr Firth will also give a speech during the morning which will outline other major developments currently in the pipeline at Wrekin College to further improve facilities.

He said: "I hope those paying us a visit on Saturday will see a very good all-round school with many outstanding facilities which seeks to give a broad education with a strong academic core.”

The business school will also be open and visitors can find out more about other schemes and programmes at school aimed at preparing pupils for life outside the classroom including its in-house Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme which has one of the best pass rates in the country.
