College supports 'Safer Internet Day'
Telford College of Arts and Technology today gave its backing to Safer Internet Day, a worldwide campaign to promote safe and responsible use of technology.
Daniel Blasczyk, enrichment facilitator at TCAT, ran an information stand in the college's Rendezvous area, where advice was available on issues such as privacy settings and running professional social media accounts.
He said: "It's important that as a college we promote the internet safety message and remind our students of how to stay safe online.
"Our computer services team have been offering advice, hints and tips all day in the Learner Hub on how to stay safe on all social media platforms."
TCAT marketing officer Andy Dowdall added: "We have also been educating our students about how easy it is for internet trolls to find and follow them."
Will Gardner, director of the UK Safer Internet Centre and chief executive of Childnet, said: "Safer Internet Day is an opportunity for everyone across the UK and globally to unite for a better internet.
"Whether you are a young person, parent, carer, school or organisation, we can all 'be the change' and take positive actions to make the internet a better place.
"Hundreds of schools and organisations have pledged their support for Safer Internet Day and it is this collaboration that helps ensure Safer Internet Day has such a positive impact, reaching 40% of UK children in 2016 and growing year on year."
