Shropshire university team is aiming to make its racing name

It is a step to the professional world of motor racing that can eventually lead to Formula One.

And students at the Shropshire campus of Wolverhampton University are among those hoping to lend a hand to success on the track.

It is a long way away from the world of Hamilton and Rosberg, but competition is just as intense in the Protyre Formula Renault Championship.

The team, headed by principal lecturer in mechanical engineering David Tucker, will be based the university's Priorslee Campus in Telford and will enter competitions under the name University of Wolverhampton Racing.

Professional driver Shane Kelly, who has appeared on-screen as a driver in films such as Rush and Fury will pilot the car in the competitive field.

David said the students loved getting involved and are inspired by the glamorous Formula One race that will come to a dramatic had next weekend.

He said: "It is great. For students to be placed into this high pressure environment is a real challenge."
